The Indoor Track team had the opportunity to close their season by competing in February at the Simplot Games, in Pocatello, Idaho. The 2015 Simplot Games played host to over 2000 athletes from all over the United States and the world. Each year this event provides a special experience for the Davis athletes to truly compete as a TEAM.

I say the TEAM. Not the team or the Team, but the TEAM. That is how you will find the word spelled on everything Coach Corbin Talley writes for his athletes. It’s actually an acronym: Together Everyone Achieves More, and it is a central part of the Davis track team philosophy that is so prevalent at the Simplot Games.

Davis has a long history of competing at Simplot, and the track team truly has a powerful presence at the meet. There is a big emphasis on the relays at Simplot, and it is a team goal each year to qualify as many relay teams as possible for the finals on Saturday.

In 2015, Davis competed with 35 relay teams between the 8 relay events: 4x200m, 4x400m, 1600m Sprint Medley, and 4x800m all in boys and girls divisions. Out of those, 14 teams were able to compete in the finals. Two of those four athlete teams took home gold medals.

Davis hasn’t come away with many individual titles from Simplot over the years, but the pervasive dominance of the relay teams serves to confirm their depth and strength. It is a reminder to the athletes that they can achieve far more together than they could alone, also embodied in the TEAM cheer: All for one, one for all, all for Davis High.
