With eleven albums and four re-recordings, Taylor Swift has been taking themusic industry by storm. Her discography consists of over two hundred songs, andalmost every album is a different genre of music. Because of this, Swift is wildly popular.Her music appeals to many different audiences, and her lyrics are all clever anddifferent. Because each album is so different musically and lyrically, almost everyperson has a different opinion on which album is the best.Before discussing individual opinions, the number of awards and streams canindicate which album the general public thinks is best. Fearless, Taylor Swift’s secondstudio album, is known to be the most awarded country album in history. It wasoriginally released in 2008 and re-recorded in 2021. At the Grammy’s with Fearless,Swift took home four awards: Album of the Year, Best Country Album, with “WhiteHorse” winning both Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.It also had around 7.285 million copies sold upon release.Another one of Taylor Swift’s most popular albums is 1989, released in 2014 andre-recorded in 2023. It was at the top of the Billboard 200 for eleven weeks and had tengrammy nominations. It won Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and others. Thealbum sold 1.3 million copies only on the first week of release, and was Swift’s officialtransition from country to pop music. And it’s looking like she’s not going back any timesoon.However, success isn’t always measured numbers, it is also through the opinionsof Taylor Swift’s fans, the “Swifties.” Izzy Martinez, a senior at Davis High, said, “Myfavorite is definitely reputation. It’s so beautifully written, and even the name ‘reputation’says so much.” Brynlee Beckstrand, another senior, quickly agreed. Reputation seemsto be one of the most popular albums among teenagers. “I’m feeling rageful overJanuary, and reputation gives me something to be angry with.” With reputation’srelatable lyrics about love, revenge, and anger, many people feel like they can connectto it.repuation is also an album that has a complicated story behind it. Shortly afterKanye West’s release of “Famous,” Taylor Swift disappeared for two years. No oneknew where she was and no one saw her. But in 2017, Swift made her comeback withreputation. The album has since gotten over nine billion streams and is one of her mostpopular album’s to date.However, Taylor Swift’s repuation is her one of her least awarded albums. Itdidn’t win any awards and got very little nominations. So, in the music industry,repuation is Taylor’s least popular album. But, to the public, it’s one of her best albumsof all time. This shows that not all nominations and awards actually reflect the impactthat music can have on people.
Overall, it’s important to respect people’s opinions. Everyone has a distinct taste
in music that is different from the next person, and we never know how a song canaffect someone. Remember that songs and albums are more than their nominationsand awards!
