This past Friday, the 14th, our boys and girls cross-country teams raced at the BYU Invitational. The BYU cross country meet is one of the most prestigious races in Utah. This year however it was not in Provo, Utah. It was held in Logan, on Utah States course. This was due to the near by fires happened by BYUs campus and the very poor air quality in the area. Breathing in smoke is never good, especially when running.
The boys varsity race was a very hard fought battle. Utah is very competitive in running and is always a challenge to do good. Our boys ended up taking 3rd over all, losing to American Fork, who is ranked in the top 5 in the nation. Jake Halverson (junior) is one of Davis top boys. When asked about the race he said:
“We all ran very strong but still have a lot of room to improve. Although we would love to have been higher up in the results, our end goal is be top 2 at Nike Cross Regional in Arizona. We still have a month tell that and will be putting in a lot of hard work”.
The boys team is in a very competitive race to see who will get those last few spots on the a varsity team.
Over at the girls varsity race, in a very close 5 way race, we came out in 4th. Although that was not what they were hoping for, it was a good step in the right direction. With multiple injures, the team as been struggling to stay healthy and fit. With a long cross country season, there is gaps to heal and rest. The end goal is to make it Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon.
The next race is Wednesday the 19th on Antelope Island. Let’s show our Davis High Pride and go cheer on our girls and boys!
