During the winter it gets to -18 C in the canyon but as you get higher up the canyon it does get colder, in the spring the weather starts to get warmer but towards the top of the mountain it is chilly at this time of year. The most popular time of the year to hike Mount Timp is in mind July to September. It is the most popular time because the wildflowers peak in July, and the trail conditions are the best, at this time of the year.
There are several animals that you can see while hiking. Some of the animals are Mountain goats, moose, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and various rodents such as pikas and chipmunks. The most popular animal seen is a mountain goat, they are very frequently seen in the mountains. Moose are not as likely to be seen at higher elevations, but they are seen lower on the mountain. Pikas and Chipmunks seem near meadows most. The bighorn sheep are seen on lower hillsides they are found near the Battle Creek Falls Trails. The most dangerous animals that are found on the hike are Mountain goats. These goats are dangerous because their horns can be used to attack.
