Recreation Sports

Recreation+Sports

Are Rec Sports or Comp better

Many kids growing up have either done Rec Sports or Comp Sports we are going to try to find out which ones are better. Which one puts more pressure on the kids playing them and how it will effect there life after sports.

 Rec Sports

What are some of the good things that come of Recreational sports. Lots of kids growing up have played some sort of Rec sport if its soccer or maybe baseball, football, Basketball. On average 50.7 percent of youth have played sports from 6-17 in the state of Utah. We went around and asked random kids at the school if they have ever played a Rec sport and how they have felt about it. First, we asked Dax Doruis who has played Junior jazz since he was a kid. He mainly has played on teams with his friends on it this year he is playing on the Kaysville Glazers; Dax told us that Rec Sports have helped him find new friends and have helped him stay active in all of the sports that he has done. Next, we asked Liam Shiner about what Rec Sports he has done and how they have effected them. He has played basketball, baseball, football, and soccer he has played since he was a little kid. His favorite sport to play was football and is currently playing on the high school team. Playing football as a kid made him more coordinated and made him more conditioned than the average kid. Some of the good things about rec sports at young ages are that there isn’t as much pressure on you to do good by your parents and it isn’t as serious as comp sports get.

 Comp Sports

Comp Sports are one level up from Rec sports when kids start playing chasing goals of competing on the next level the competition gets harder which pushes the kids to work harder. We asked Brigham Garber who has played Comp Basketball since he was 10, we asked him what some of the benefits are that he has experienced from comp sports, it helps you get better as a player, its more competitive and you are getting better practice. We asked him if it ever felt forced upon him. He said yes sometimes if it gets too intense but for the most part it is a lot better than Rec sports. Some of the bigger advantages of comp sports is recruiting there are a lot more scouts that have been going to comp events to check out kids then kids who are just doing it for fun. One of the disadvantages of Comp is the amount of pressure that can be put on kids and make them not want to do the sport anymore, it can turn into the parents wanting it more then the kids do.

What is the best for your kid

There is no real way to figure out what is the best one for your kid there are many good things that can come from both and even just something that is keeping the kid active while they are young can help them throughout there whole life. There are many things you should take into account when figuring out what you should put your kids into the biggest being interest into the sport.
