All these animals live on the Island; they travel in packs but to a degree. Some fun facts about these animals are Marine Laguna, which is a sea lizard. They are black and gray and can blend in with volcano rock. They can also dive up to 30 feet underwater. Blue feet have bright feet and blue feet. They can dive into the water super-fast and catch fish. The males do funny dancing to impress females. The Galapagos Giant Tortoise can live over the years. This animal can weigh up to 550 pounds. They move very slowly and eat plants and grass. The Galapagos Sea Lion loves to play and swim. The males are a lot bigger than the females. They are very playful with each other. They live in large groups called colonies. They can also hold their breath underwater for a total of 20 minutes.
There are several beaches in the Galapagos. There are Black sand beaches from volcanic rocks, there are white coral beaches, red sand beaches, and most of the beaches are rocky. The most popular beaches there are Tortuga Bay, Puerto Ayora Beach, Gardner Bay, Bacha’s beach, and Puerto Egas Beach. The water at the beaches is cool around the year. The waves are very strong, and it is very good for snorkeling. There is a lot of wildlife on all these beaches. The most common wildlife to see on the beach is a Galapagos sea lion. They are seen in several places from water, to sand, and around people. They are not afraid of people and to be around them!
There are 13 active volcanoes in Galapagos. Most of them are shield volcanoes. The biggest volcano is Sierra Negra. It covers 45 square miles. The last time that it went off want in 2018 was when it created black sand beaches. Normally there is at least one eruption every 2.6 years. The volcanoes are the reason for the black sand. These volcanoes were formed millions of years agon and they are still growing to this day. They create new land, and they also help rare plant species. All the islands that are on Galapagos Island were formed millions of years ago by a volcanic hotspot under the earth’s crust. They change the impacts of the island’s climate; these volcanoes are also changing the coastline constantly.
