Color guard is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated sports at Davis High. They are so hardworking and as a result, are amazing at what they do. For those of you that don’t know much about color guard, I will give you a little bit of background. Color guards are teams of performers who perform choreographed dances and routines with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of a show.

Davis High School’s color guard has two seasons of competitions and performing. There is one in the fall, and one in the winter. They usually perform with the marching band, but during the winter season, they separate from the band to build their own unique and stunning color guard show.

There are 14 members on the winter color guard team this year, and they are currently looking for more members! Whether you have experience or not, you can always learn and the team would be delighted to have you! There are three sections in the color guard that use different equipment. There is the saber section which includes Ben Clawson, Carmen Pectol, Kennedi Morris, Candee Derbridge and Jaden Sparrow. There is the flag section which includes Cara Smith, Christina Lopez, Reilly Pankoski and Cara Smith. The last section is the rifles which includes Lindsey Haderlie, Natalie Shunn, Bayley Warnick, Bayley Lemperle and Lexie Snell.

When I talked to some members, almost all of them said they wish that the students of Davis High knew that all the members of color guard are such an awesome and welcoming group. They are all very close friends and some said they even consider each other family. All the members said that if there is anyone out there who is even remotely interested in color guard to come and check it out. They will gladly teach anyone who wants to learn and will welcome anyone into their color guard family.

One last question that I asked the members was that if they could change one thing about Davis High and color guard what would it be? They all said that they wish that color guard would have some more recognition and representation from the school as an actual hardworking and competitive sports team. They still love what they do no matter what, but it would be so much better with the support of the students at Davis High. So, all the students of Davis High, get out there and show your support for this amazing, elegant and dedicated team!
