Video Games turn Towards Violence

by Taylor Rogers

With violent video games becoming so prominent in society today, and the rate of violence increasing alongside violent video games, one might think that violence in videogames is causing violence in society. But do consider the very high divorce rate, According to the American Psychological Association about 40-50% of marriages end in divorce.

Domestic violence is also a large part of violence in society today, the American Psychological Association also states that domestic violence is one of the leading causes of injury to women between the ages of 15 to 44 in the United States, more than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined.
Sophomore Hayden Taylor at Davis High School said “… for some reason somebody wants to do something violent, then they can just do it in a videogame so they don’t really want to do anything violent anymore because they feel like they already did it.”

Violent video games could be an outlet of stress and anger that could otherwise build up and could possibly develop into a violent action in real life.
Sophomore Cameron Wood at Davis High School also believes that violent video games do not affect society he said “because

aren’t real life”.
If somebody were to go and play Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto for one hour right now ,at the end of the hour whoever played, wouldn’t want to harm anybody any more than they did before they started playing.

Violence in society is caused by real life violence in the home, emotional stress from home, school, or work, and the extremely high rate of divorce in the United States.

If violence in video games did affect violence in society than every single person who purchased Call of Duty Black Ops 2 would be outside right now shooting up the streets and raiding buildings and tomahawking everybody they could see. Violent video games are in just about every house in the United States, Parents should not be letting little children play violent games at a very young age, violence in video games does desensitize you towards violence but does not cause you to shoot people, it just makes you more numb towards real life death and suffering and real life wars.
