Michael Crookston is Davis High School’s band director and has been helping bring the power of music to our high school for the last 7 years! He is also a member of the Utah Music Educators Association and in the UEA, Utah Bandmasters Association.

Mr. Crookston has been a dart for as long as he can remember. He graduated in the class of 2004 then graduated with honors from Weber State University in Music Education with an instrumental emphasis.

After college Mr. Crookston taught 2 years at Rocky Mountain Jr. High in Weber school district then 2 more years at west point Jr. High. “Band is very fulfilling, it’s impressive how much you can do with music.” Says Mr. Crookston.

During his time at these schools, they both received invitation to play at the state junior high concert band festival at the University of Utah! They also received superior scores at district festivals.

Though Mr. Crookston loves teaching band he has also worked as a percussion advisor to the marching band and winter drumlines for Davis High School “Music can be a vehicle to teaching a lot of life lessons.” Says Mr. Crookston when asked why he devoted his life to music.

When Michael isn’t pursuing music he spends his time snowboarding, wakeboarding, cross country skiing, and just spending time with his wife and 4 kids Carter, Makenna, Dawson, and Tessa.

Davis High School is lucky to have Mr. Crookston as their band teacher, not only because of his academic achievements but because he has a genuine love for music and the students he teaches. “I just love Davis High, Go Darts!”
