“The Creator” Movie Review and Analysis

The Creator Movie Review and Analysis

The Creator released in theaters on September 9th, 2023. The science fiction film is
directed by Gareth Edwards and stars John David Washington. The Creator focuses on a war in
the future that is fought between the humans and artificial intelligence. The humans in the
western hemisphere are against AI and the humans in the east are more for AI, this creates
conflicts between the nations. The Creator is the type of movie that will really make you think.
The film is very strange, yet its is a very intriguing experience. If you want to see a movie that
isn’t like anything else that has come out recently, then this is the movie for you.
The Creator has a cinematically visceral atmosphere that encapsulates you. The
Direction, music, and cinematography all contribute to achieve the visceral atmosphere of the
film. Gareth Edward direction is his best yet in his career. As always, the cinematography by
Greig Frazier was top notch for the industry. Greig Frazier delivers gorgeous and creative visuals
that are the most impressive feature of the film. The music that was composed by the industry
beloved, Hans Zimmer, ties the whole movie together. The character designs and sets feel very
authentic for what the filmmakers’ goals are.

John David Washington delivers a career-high performance that packs an emotional
punch. John David Washington succeeds at selling himself as this heavily conflicted character
who carries a lot of weight and burden. Every actor gives a realistic performance that does not
feel forced. The whole cast works very well together in unison to create a singular vision. Even
though everybody gives a great performance, this film is not intended to give actors breakout
roles, because the actors serve the characters and completely blend into their role. You are there
to see the characters, not the actors.

The story of The Creator is complex with many moving elements. The story moves at a
good pace and includes many twists and turns. The Creator features some genuinely shocking
twists, the story goes places you would not expect. The Creator holds a budget of just 80-
million-dollars, which is much lower than the budgets of most Hollywood blockbusters which
typically have a 200-million-dollar budget. With the film’s relatively low budget it still manages
to tell its story in the best way possible and it seems like a more expensive movie then most other
blockbusters that have a higher budget. The Creator uses its budget very smartly. The movie’s
story is a unique one, yet it pulls from classic sci-fi movies such as “The Terminator”. Watching
the story unfold is very engaging, it takes you in very interesting directions to explore.
The Creator is true science fiction. Science fiction is all about visionary ideas and this a
high point of the film. Good science fiction is built on a realism through a vision of future
possibilities that have a real effect on people and the world around us, The Creator embodies this
idea perfectly. The Creator thinks big with its grand ideas, but it still feels like it could
realistically happen in a possible future.

It is the perfect time for a movie like The Creator to come out. The Creator is relevant to
the time we are in right now. Dealing with AI is a major thing happening in our world today. The
Creator take an optimistic stance with AI, because it argues that AI will help us and that
everything bad that comes from AI would be human error that is connected to the AI. In the
movie the humans blame AI for things that they are responsible for. The approach that The
Creator takes on AI might be controversial for some people because they might not be so fond of
AI. In my theater somebody walked out of the film about 15 minutes in, this might be due to that
fact that he was angry about the optimistic use of AI. AI is a very pressing and controversial
issue, lots of people are completely against it. The Creator manages to make you feel for the AI
characters and the film really humanizes them. In the film the AI characters have more humanity
than the actual human characters. This is a very interesting way to portray AI. The Creator might
make people be more accepting of AI in our real world.

Many interesting concepts are explored in The Creator. The movie shows people
donating their likeness to AI, this means that the AI can have somebody’s voice and face when
they are donated. In Hollywood, today’s actors are worried about movie studios using their
likeness using AI, the Creator has interesting commentary on this real-world issue. Another fun
concept that The Creator shows are walking AI robots that are intended to be suicide bombers.
The robots self-destruct themselves in order to wipe out their enemy, this a creative way that the
movie uses the concept of suicide bombers to make an interesting point that relates to this
futuristic world.

The main point to take away from The Creator is that is makes you think. The Creator is
thought provoking. Even though the film might take a stance on a particular issue it doesn’t
mean you have to agree with it, the movie is just trying to make you think about the issue by
giving you alternate perspectives. The Creator shows a possible future of what AI might turn out
to be, and it is fascinating to see this version of a future that isn’t far from our own real world.
Overall, The Creator is an impressive, creative, original, and thought-provoking film. The
Creator is a rare cinematic experience, it is unlike anything else. The only real complaint for the
movie would be its long runtime and it might be too grand of a scope based on its smaller and
emotional story. If you are on the fence about going out to see the film just do it, it will engage
you. The Creator is a love letter to the science fiction genre.
