Spotlight on Coach Souli

Spotlight+on+Coach+Souli

Souli Phongsavath is a coach and teacher at Davis high school. He is a family, soccer, and Taylor Swift enthusiast. When asking Souli what his favorite thing about coaching at Davis High is, he said “winning! Just kidding… it’s the kids, it’s all about the kids.” Souli has close relationships with many of his players and continues to hold these relationships even after they graduate. He has brought home 7 state championships while coaching at Davis high, his most recent being the 2022-2023 girls’ soccer season. He says that he has had lots of talent come through his years and that is the reason for winning so many times. His favorite type of player to coach is someone coachable and willing to work hard. Having players who he can coach will make or break the team. If he has a team full of coachable players who work hard, there is nothing they can’t accomplish. His biggest inspiration in all that he does is “his homeboy Michael Jordan”. Michael Jordan has been one of his biggest inspirations for as long as he can remember. He has taught him to never give up and to always work hard. Nothing in life is given to you easily.

When Souli was asked what his favorite part about teaching is, he said “again, it’s all about the kids”. He loves what he does because he loves who he works with. Souli only teaches sophomores. When asked why, he says that sophomores are the best to teach because they are fresh out of junior high. “They are like clay that you can mold and shape.” They respect him more. Once they become juniors and seniors, they get lazy and start to have an attitude. He says that he is passionate about teaching and loves what he does. Being able to teach and coach, Souli lives the best of both worlds. He spends time with his favorite students and gets to coach very successful and talented athletes. Teaching at Davis high, he has made many friends and close relationships. He loves his fellow teachers and has a great time with them. They help each other out, and always have each other’s backs.

Souli’s top three values are hard work, integrity, and respect. These three things will take you to a lot of places in life and teach you how to be a successful and good human. His favorite Taylor Swift songs are “all too well”, “fifteen”, “fearless”, “22”, and “style”. He has been to countless Taylor Swift concerts and even got to attend the Eras tour twice. He has loved Taylor for many years and thinks she is the greatest of all time. He loves to bond with his daughter by taking her to Taylor’s concerts. They have bonded over their love for Taylor swift since she was a young girl. His favorite food is steak, and he loves a good strawberry refresher from Starbucks. In Souli’s family, their most important values are love, faith, and hope. He has built a beautiful family with his wife and 4 children. One thing that Souli wants people to remember about him after he dies is that he was a good guy. His biggest role models in life are his mom or dad.

Souli has worked very hard to build a good name for himself. He knows what he is talking about and has led many teams to big victories. He has also trained many athletes who have gone on to play in college or professionally. He has strong relationships with his players and has kept

them for many years. Souli values his work, and it shows. He is thankful for the relationships he has made over the years with his students, players, and their families. Souli is an awesome guy, and we are so thankful that he is part of the Davis high family.
