DART VS PIONEERS V2
The region 1 champion Davis Darts are slated to play the defending 5A state
champion Lehi Pioneers for the second time this season. In their last meeting the
Pioneers defeated the Darts 28-14 in the season opener and Davis home opener.
This time around the Darts will take the trip to Lehi as the quarterfinal matchup is
scheduled to be played at the home of the #3 Pioneers.
In the last 3 games the teams have played against each other Lehi has had
the upper hand in the last two while in 2021 the Darts defeated Lehi at home
following that upset the Pioneers went onto win the 5A title back-to-back years
before getting promoted to 6A prior to kickoff of this UHSAA season.
The Darts will look to upset the Pioneers under the play of sophomore
quarterback Treydon Bessinger and a high-class receiving core consisting of Bode
Sparrow, Kash Gates, and Tyson Bagget. The defense will be put to the test
starting with the D-Line that has been getting pressure to opposing quarterbacks
all season long. In the Darts last game, a close match against region foe Weber in
the second meeting of the two teams and the darts trailing at the half were able
to rally together to win and advance.
The Pioneers advanced to the quarterfinals with a dominating win over the
Riverton Silverwolves lead by quarterback Jett Niu who had 25 attempts for 227
yards and 3 touchdowns. The Lehi defense also stood strong in the 31-0 shutout.
Round 1 Recap
In the 28-14 Pioneers win in the season opener this year the darts gave up
three big play touchdowns which ultimately decided their fate in the remainder of
the game. The first of these plays occurred in the second quarter when Isaish
Allen picked up a fumble on his own side of the Darts logo and took it to the
house making the game 6-0 with the PAT which followed being missed. The third
quarter made up the final two scores which gave the Pioneers the points they
needed to defeat the Darts. These two scores were off of 60+ yard plays ending
the quarter at a score of 20-14. Lehi did tack on a touchdown as an insurance
marker in the 4th quarter followed by a two-point conversion rounding out the
final score of 28-14.
Lehi Season in review
Following the week 1 win the Pioneers won their next four games including
a 45-13 win on the road in Idaho over the Rigby Trojans. Lehi ended the regular
season with an 8-2 record with losses coming to American Fork, and Skyridge in
back-to-back weeks.
