Alzheimer’s Awareness in the Media Center

National Alzheimer’s Awareness month is during November. The Alzheimer’s Association said that Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. It also stated that 5 million Americans have this disease.

The Media Center is currently hosting a read-a-thon to raise money for fight against Alzheimer Disease. “How it works is a student who wants to (participate) gets a reading tracker to keep track of the pages and the books,” Librarian Jennifer Harward said. “Then they would go out and try to get sponsors who would either sponsor them by the page or by the book.” Harward also stated that the money donated during the read-a-thon will be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation to pay for research, healthcare, and awareness for Alzheimer’s.

Students join a drawing for prizes if they participate in the Media Center read-a-thon. The event runs throughout the month November.
