Seniors get ready for next step in life

Just like VaNeta, Davis High is filled with talented and dedicated students that will do amazing things as the seniors graduate this June.

VaNeta Burnett is a senior at Davis High School. She has been a member of the band for the last three years and through dedication and hard work has become an amazing trumpet player. However, her plans for next year are quite different than most of the graduating seniors.

“I am sworn into the Marine Corps and I am leaving for basics on June 22nd. After three months of basic training I will go to combat and arms training for two weeks and then I will be going to Arm Forces School for music for six months in Virginia. Then I will be put in one of the fourteen Marine bands around the world,” Burnett said.

Through diligence and perseverance, Burnett has become a key component to the Davis High band. She has a never-give-up attitude that has helped her achieve her goal of being accepted to the Marine Corps music program.

“You give VaNeta a job to do or a task that may be perceived to be too difficult or challenging and she just takes it as an extra challenge. That’s just the person she is,” Mr. Hendricks, Davis High Band Director, said.
