New Harry Potter Book Excites Fans

Billy Elliott, Culture Editor

J.K. Rowling has been adding to the Harry Potter series nonstop recently. She is constantly releasing writings and quizzes and different interactive activities for fans to explore on Pottermore.com. She has also just recently released Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as both a play and a script book. Last but not least (for now) she has announced three new films to add to the series.

These films are based off of one of the textbooks in Harry Potter, called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. The first one follows the author of this textbook, Newt Scamander, played by actor Eddie Redmayne. It takes place in New York in 1926. One synopsis for the movies says, “In 1926, Newt Scamander arrives at the Magical Congress of the United States of America for a meeting with an important official. At this meeting is a magically expanded briefcase, which houses a number of dangerous creatures and their habitats. When the creatures escape from the briefcase, it sends the American wizarding authorities after Newt. The situation threatens to strain even further the state of magical and non-magical relations, which is already in a dangerous place, due to the threatening presence of the fanatical New Salem Philanthropic Society, an extremist organization dedicated to the eradication of wizard-kind. Newt battles to correct the mistake, and the horrors of the resultant increase in violence, fear, and tension felt between magical and non-magical peoples.” (Fantatstic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film)) It has also been announced that this movie will be part of a trilogy, although the plots of the rest are unknown.

Some people wish for more stories to be added to the series, aside from what has been announced.

“I really want her to write more books, preferably one before [the original series] happened, about James Potter and their Generation and after, but I don’t think that she’ll do that.”, said Kristen Ponce, a Slytherin.

For now that is all that J.K. Rowling has announced, but it is likely that other things could be added.
