Summer is here! The schoolwork is done, the sun is out, and our spirits are high! Summer is an exciting season in many different ways, but perhaps one of the most important aspects of summer for teenagers is the social world. During the next three months, there are almost no constraints on spending time with friends! This also includes going on dates… maybe with significant others, and maybe just with good friends! No matter what situation it is, here are five date ideas which will make your summer worth remembering.
1 – Sunset Hike
This is the perfect opportunity for a fun, memorable date with some physical activity and a low-pressure social environment. A hike is a great opportunity for light conversation and a chance to get to know someone better. The conversation will flow easily, and when it pauses, it won’t be awkward because you can both focus on the scenery instead. Sunset hikes also release endorphins as you walk and move through nature, which will naturally improve the overall experience on the date.
There are many great trails with magnificent views of the sunset around Davis County, including Fernwood, Parrish Creek, Bonneville Shoreline, and Antelope Island. Be sure to check the time of the sunset and plan accordingly, pack some extra layers for when it gets cold on the way down the trail and a flashlight in case it gets dark, and then go and have some fun!
2 – Escape Room
This date is perfect for a group. If you’re looking for an activity with someone you’d like to get to know, then put together a group date with some close friends and go to an escape room! Some of the best in Davis County include Big Brain Escape, Great Room Escape, and Escape Boredom Escape Rooms. This date is especially perfect for hot summer nights, as it provides a cool, air-conditioned building with equal excitement to an outdoor date. They will also reveal a lot about your date’s personality and teamwork style, which will help you decide quickly whether you want more dates or not.
3 – Attend a Summer Festival
If you’re looking for a unique, once-in-a-summer date, then this one is for you! There are many festivals in Davis County this summer, especially in July for America’s 250th birthday! Kaysville starts off the celebrations in July on a Patriotic note, featuring outdoor movies, a firework show, and a massive parade, any of which are perfect for a casual date. Farmington continues the party with the Farmington Festival Days from July 6th to the 11th. This week long festivity will feature a pickleball tournament, a parade, and several live outdoor concerts. The Layton FEST from July 14th to August 25th will end summer with a variety of food trucks, vendors, and live music. These are three examples of the many festivals in Davis County this year, but there are many more scattered throughout summer.
Be sure to plan according to the days activities, including bringing sunblock, a phone or camera for lots of photo opportunities, and a lightweight blanket or lawn chairs for fireworks or live music concerts.
4 – Visit the Salt Flats or Antelope Island
These are two more classic group dates for teenagers at Davis High! Antelope Island is a 20 to 30 minute drive from Davis High and offers activities such as finding wildlife, sunset hiking, floating the lake, or stargazing. It is the perfect place for an adventure. Be sure to check the bug forecast, as bug repellent often doesn’t work in the late spring to early June.
The Bonneville Salt Flats is about an hour and 45 minute drive from here, so be sure you like your date enough to talk for that long! The salt flats offer a perfect minimalist backdrop for pictures, a nice place for a summer dinner with hot dogs and s’mores, and a wide open sky for stargazing. Pack more water and sunscreen than you think you’ll need, as the sun reflects off of the white sand and becomes twice as impactful.
5 – Plan a Date in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City offers multiple different vibes for different kinds of dates. Temple Square is in full bloom and is a beautiful place to go walk around and get ice cream or another treat after. Gateway offers entertainment, restaurants, and weekly sunset activities during the summer. There are outdoor concerts throughout the summer, along with mountain hikes and botanical gardens sprinkled through the city. The Capital Building lawn is a beautiful place for a picnic and Sugar House Park offers a fun paddleboarding or kayaking activity with food trucks after, depending on the day.
