    “Super” assembly welcomes students

The school year started with the traditional Hello Assembly presented by this year’s Student Body Officers. After a powerful rendition of the “National Anthem” by junior Mylie Johnson, those in the first assembly were treated to an unexpected proposal by senior Landon Wallace.

Holding a single rose while down on one knee, Wallace’s “Will you go to Homecoming with me?” could barely be heard over the cheers and “aww’s” of the crowd. “I don’t really know what happened—I was so nervous.” Johnson said.

Johnson had “no clue” she was going to be asked. “I see the principal and I’m thinking I was being offered a scholarship or some kind of award. I never would have seen that coming. Landon’s really nice—he’s a sweet guy.”

Principal Dee Burton conducted the Oath of Office, then gave a welcoming speech to inspire the students at Davis High to “do things one way: the right way for the right reason. We are humble winners and gracious losers. We just don’t like to be gracious very often.”

The curtain opened to reveal the super SBOs and their advisor, Dave Miller. Sporting super hero attire, the SBOs presented messages on unity and school pride in addition to performances from the cheerleaders, D’Ettes, Dance Company, Musical Productions, and Madrigals.
