The Best Haunted Houses in Utah

The Best Haunted Houses in Utah

Which haunted house will you visit this spooky season?

Haunted houses are a staple of spooky culture, and there are spooky haunted houses in Utah. The main few that many people will know are Fear factory, Castle of Chaos, Nightmare on 13th, Asylum 49, Shadows of Fear.

One problem with haunted houses is price. Haunted houses can get pricy especially with a big group. The haunted house with the most bang for you buck would be Fear Factory. For general admission expect to be paying $18.99. For the price you are getting a great haunted house experience. Fear Factory is one of the biggest haunted houses in Utah. The attention to detail in the sets is extraordinary. They are handmade and they look the part. The costumes and props are realistic and scary for sure. The actors are scary and act the part incredibly. It seems they have trained hard and are ready for the Halloween season each time it rolls around. In all, Fear Factory has a great price and has the scariest and best experience for the price you are paying.

Within a 10-minute drive, there is not much to offer for haunted houses in Kaysville. But the next closest haunted house would be Nightmare on 13th. This haunted house is next to the Salt Lake Bees baseball stadium. This haunted house makes every room feel like you are stepping into a horror movie. Again, the actors and props feel so realistic and feel like they could step out and take you away any second. This haunted house is one of the scariest ones on this list. In all, this is quite a good, haunted house which is also the shortest drive out of all of these.

Asylum forty-nine has a few problems, it is the furthest away out of all of these and it is a little bit more expensive as well. Asylum forty-nine is a great place to go besides these two things. “You will be touched, may be carried off by the doctors, and may be separated from your group,” says Cami Anderson, owner of Asylum 49. “It is very intense and not recommended for children, adults who do not like being scared, pregnant women or physically or mentally impaired individuals. Come prepared to be scared and to have fun with it! Full contact is not for everyone, so if you cannot handle the intensity, we would rather you not come.” If you are looking for just the scariest haunted house, Asylum 49 is the one for you. This haunted house is actually rumored to be haunted. When the owners started renovating the space to turn it into an attraction, paranormal things started to happen to them. After multiple investigations, they deemed the hospital haunted, “with a staggering amount of evidence,” Cami says. This makes Asylum 49 one of the scariest haunted houses in Utah. For this attraction expect to be paying $30 for general admission.

Now, the last two haunted houses on the list, Castle of Chaos in Midvale, and Shadows of Fear in Tooele, are pretty evenly matched. On one hand, you have Castle of Chaos which has levels of scare factor designated by how much you pay, and how willing you are to experience the haunted house to its fullest. On the other, you have Shadows of Fear which is leaning towards family-friendly but still has a few redeeming qualities if you are looking for sheer scares.

If you are looking for a place with the most variety of spooks and scares. The best choice would be Castle of Chaos in Midvale. They say it best on their website when they describe themselves as an underground labyrinth with a mix of classic and modern-day horror. Castle of Chaos has been praised for its actors. What it lacks in animatronics and FX it makes up for in the sheer number of actors. The different rooms in the maze ranged from church meetinghouses, to graveyards, to medieval torture chambers, and everything in between. You could probably find a reference to just about every single popular horror movie in this haunted house. All of this comes with a price, literally. Expect to be paying $30 general admission. And on top of this price, there are multiple levels of “scariness” to chose from. To add an additional $15, you can get a full, hands-on experience where the actors can touch you. In all, this haunted house is great for anyone who wants to experience all aspects of a haunted house.

The last haunted house on this list is Shadows of Fear in Tooele. This haunted house has things for full on haunted house connoisseurs and also has areas for families and children. This makes it extremely popular with families and people who do not want to be scared too badly. Though their website says “family friendly” there are some real spooks in this haunted house. Ranging from original, never-seen-before horror concepts such as the infamous “Silent Woman” who lurks the maze and will send a chill down even the most veteran haunted house visitor, and popular horror characters such as Jason Vorhees and Samara from The Ring. If you are looking for a good time with some scary moments but overall family friendly haunted house. Shadows of Fear is the one for you. You would expect to be paying $25 for the standard admission haunted maze. Though, there are a few upgrades you could consider purchasing.

Keeping all of this in mind, The best haunted house for you to visit this Halloween, would have to be Fear Factory in Salt Lake City Utah. It costs $18.99 for general admission and has some of the most detailed sets and also the most terrifyingly real actors. All of the rooms are original concepts, (no specific horror movie rooms) and hand painted sets. If you read on Fear Factory’s website, it is said to be actually haunted. This adds to the fun of the factory and in all, this haunted house will give you moderate scares, (but also some really scary moments!), terrifying actors, good pricing, and a great location. If these sound like good things to you, consider taking a trip to Fear Factory this Halloween.
